2011 ANNUAL REPORT
We are proud to announce that during the financial year ending 30 September 2011, thanks to the hard work of our many local publicans, dedicated staff and knowledgeable Regional Advisory Committee members NZCT returned $38.5 million to local communities. This was well above the statutory minimum requirement.
NZCT prides itself on its high standards and efforts to ensure we comply with all relevant regulations and legislation. Our gaming machines are operated in a controlled environment and are supervised by professional, responsible publicans. We are very proud of the positive outcomes we achieved in the past 12 months.
The primary reason NZCT exists is to raise funds for amateur sport and we are pleased to advise that, of the 2779 grants paid last year, more than 80 percent went to sporting organisations. This means NZCT continues to be one of the largest funders of amateur sport in New Zealand.
While most of our grants were for $10,000 or less, we are delighted that we were able to support a number of significant community projects which will provide on-going benefits for many years to come. Some of the major contributions NZCT made during the 2010-11 year include:
• Funding artificial playing surfaces at Otago Stadium, Wellington’s Wakefield Park and Auckland’s Bill McKinlay Park.
• Fitting out Wellington’s new Indoor Sports Centre with sports equipment.
• Providing lighting at Christchurch’s Nunweek Park.
• Funding a clock tower for Lake Karapiro’s rowing community.
One notable grant was NZCT’s $5 million contribution to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust (CEAT) to help rebuild Christchurch’s sports facilities and infrastructure. This grant was over and above the funds raised by NZCT publicans locally, and was made available by accelerating our redistribution of community equity.
