AIMS GAMES A SPORTING SUCCESS
In early September, the NZCT AIMS Games were held in Tauranga. During this action –packed week, more than 3000 year seven and eight students, from 88 schools, participated in 13 sports. The objective was to provide opportunities for students in the middle years to be active, celebrate fair play and enjoy success.
By all accounts, the event, which has grown dramatically during the past six years, was a great success. Spokesperson Vicki Semple said the NZCT AIMS National Sporting Championships would not take place without the generous sponsorship of the New Zealand Community Trust.
“We are delighted to have NZCT again as our Principal Sponsor and wish to acknowledge your organisation for your generosity,” said Ms Semple.
NZCT National Grants Manager, Tony Gill, says the trust was pleased to be able to support an event which benefits so many young people.
“NZCT is the biggest funder of amateur sport in New Zealand,” says Mr Gill. “We’re proud the money raised in our gaming venues is being used to motivate and encourage young people to enjoy their sport. I’d like to thank our venue operators who helped make this event possible.”
The sports played throughout the week long competition include: basketball, cross country, football, golf, hockey, multisport, netball, squash, swimming, tennis and waterpolo.
This year the NZCT Teammates Cup, the premiere award presented for overall excellence, was won by Cobham Intermediate Christchurch. The PDF file below shows some images from the games.
