Croquet Mount Maunganui increases playing surface thanks to NZCT

Good news for Croquet Mount Maunganui. NZCT awarded the club $5,000 towards reducing the current bund and increasing the playing surfaces. By making this adjustment, Croquet Mount Maunganui is able to continue hosting world and national events.

Croquet Mount Maunganui offers various sorts of croquet, such as Association Croquet, Golf Croquet and Ricochet. The club wishes to improve one of their facilities.

Susan Roberts, President of Croquet Mount Maunganui, said, “We want to reduce the size of the current bund that runs 150 metres along the Totara Street boundary. At present this has become unmanageable for our club members to maintain in a safe way and goes against all the health and safety regulations. We want to reduce the width of the bund and put in a retaining wall with a flowerbed of one metre high. This will be easier for us to maintain and also allows us to increase our playing surface by one metre and that means we meet the requirements to host World Championships.”

Susan Roberts says reducing the current bund and put in a retaining wall with a flowerbed is a complex logistics project. “We will hire a professional company to remove the excess dirt and build the new retaining wall. Hopefully we could finish this project by the end of August. We are grateful for NZCT’s grant, because without it we definitely couldn’t afford to do this!”
