A $5,000 NZCT grant has made a big difference to Christchurch’s Halswell Tennis Club. The funding was used to pay for coaching for the club’s 70 junior players and 34 junior beginner players. This greatly improved their performance and by the end of the season many players had achieved great personal success as well as outstanding results for the club.
Throughout the 2013/14 season the club’s tennis coach provided weekly coaching sessions to its junior players and interclub teams. The club had 14 junior teams involved in the interclub competition, and of these, five made it to the finals, with three teams winning their grade. This was a fabulous result for the players and for the club.
The young players were also commended by Canterbury Tennis’ Junior Administrator for their outstanding sportsmanship and the quality of their tennis.
Halswell Tennis says that this successful season, based on successful coaching, will help the club grow its junior membership and it lays a good foundation for young players as they continue with their sport.
