Good news for the Wellington Handball Federation. NZCT awarded the organisation $2,000 towards new playing shirts and shorts for the senior men’s and women’s teams that compete in the Australian state championships.
The Wellington Handball Federation was established in 2007 and hosts the biggest handball community in New Zealand. They organise local handball competitions and school tournaments. Claire Guest, Treasurer of the Wellington Handball Federation, applied to NZCT for new uniforms. “We send our senior men’s and women’s teams to the New Zealand regional tournament in Auckland [12-13 August, Massey, Albany]. If they do well, they will qualify for the Australian state championships in October 2017. These players, many of whom are university and secondary school students, will be funding the trip themselves including airfares, accommodation and training costs. Thanks to NZCT we can now take away the costs for the uniforms from them.”
Claire Guest plays handball herself because she finds it fun and different, and she enjoys the people in the handball community. By being the Treasurer at the Wellington Handball Federation, she can give something back to the handball community. “Handball is a small sport in New Zealand and we don’t get much exposure. That’s why I am really grateful to NZCT for their support!”
