NZCT awarded Rototuna Indoor Recreation Centre Trust with $200,000. Thanks to this generous grant, the Trust is able to fund half of the sports fit-out for The Peak - Te Puumanawa o Rototuna. The facility can now start operating.
Rototuna Indoor Recreation Centre Trust was established in November 2016 to form the governance model for the establishment and ongoing management of the centre. The building of the centre has been funded by Hamilton City Council and the Ministry of Education. It operates under a shared use agreement between Rototuna High Schools and Hamilton City Council.
Liz Cann is the Facility Manager at The Peak - Te Puumanawa o Rototuna. She said, “Specifically with the money we have been able to install basketball hoops and backboards, bleacher seating and the equipment trolleys for the netball, volleyball and badminton equipment. The money has funded the three dividing curtains so multiple sports can be played at once. It also creates zones for school use and community use to happen at the same time.”
The sports fit-out is now complete and the centre is ready for community use. Liz Cann said, “The centre has been a plan 10 years in the making and is a first priority for the Waikato Regional Sports Facility Plan. There are now great opportunities for regional sports clubs to grow the participation in their sport, for the schools to reach their curriculum aims and for the local community to get physically active. The centre will become the heart of this growing community!”
