NZCT IN YOUR COMMUNITY

NZCT has created regional advisory committees (RACs) in five areas around the country to recommend recipients of gaming proceeds in the provinces.

The initiative was launched in Taranaki and enjoyed so much success that the following areas were included in the system: Bay of Plenty, Auckland, Top of the South and Canterbury.

Mike Knell, chief executive of NZCT, says that in most cases locals are the experts on who should receive funding from gaming machines, rather than these decisions being made from afar.

"They're on the spot and have a closer link with the local needs, and to a large degree we leave them to make the decisions on recommending who deserves what," he said.

The Northern committee is: Colin Dale (chair), Tom Clarke, Peter Goldsmith, Bernice Mene, Paula Browning.

The Bay of Plenty committee is: Gary Cookson (chair), Trevor Maxwell, Ken Hingston, Grant Scoones.

The Taranaki committee is: Neil Wolfe (chair), Howie Tamati, Jen Blyde, Selwyn Metcalfe.

The Top of the South committee is: Paul Matheson (chair), Tony Healey, Bronwyn Monopoli, Gerald Hope.

The Canterbury committee is: Stephen Boock (chair), Todd Heller, Darryll Park, Julie Seymour.
