Paul is a former Mayor of Nelson and was re-elected to Nelson City Council in October 2010. He is also a former Director of the Port and Airport Company and National Chair of the Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs. In addition to his council work, Paul provides advice and consultancy services to Nelson Cricket and several charitable clubs and organisations. He is an avid rugby supporter.
