Gerald is a former Mayor of Marlborough and was elected to the Marlborough District Health Board in October 2010. He is the Executive Officer at the Marlborough Research Centre Trust, and is involved with many organisations, and represented on several committees including the Cawthron Institute and Marlborough Community Hospice Trust.
