SOUTH ISLAND MASTERS GAMES
Masters of sport
The NZCT South Island Masters Games, which take place between 15 – 23 October, will see around 3000 athletes from all over New Zealand descend on Nelson to compete in a multitude of sports.
NZCT has helped fund this impressive annual sporting event, which is being held in Nelson for the first time since the Games were introduced in 2000.
From basketball to petanque, snooker to triathlon – there are 50 different sports being played by these keen, over 30 year old athletes. The Games will be based at Nelson’s Saxton Fields sports complex, which NZCT also helped fund.
“NZCT is proud to be involved in this wonderful event,” says CEO Mike Knell. “The sheer number of entries indicates how popular and well supported the Games are. This is one of the largest participation events in the South Island.
“NZCT funds all the sports groups that regularly use Saxton Fields including, softball, netball, football, cricket and volleyball,” says Mr Knell. “And we’re thrilled to see these local athletes showing off their talent to the rest of the country.
“NZCT is a firm believer in creating healthy communities through sport – which is why we are one of the largest funders of amateur sport in New Zealand.
“We wish the organisers, competitors and supporters all the best for the competition. We look forward to seeing and hearing the results.”
