Aktive Gets Active Again

Aktive has received a grant of $85,760 from NZCT for eight hundred return to play starter packs, including face masks and hand sanitizer.

Aktive Chief Executive Jennah Wootten explains - “Once again, the latest COVID-19 outbreak has had a significant impact on Auckland’s play, active recreation and sport sector. The ongoing uncertainty and the associated financial and wellbeing impacts are being felt across the region, with the sector facing numerous and increasing costs associated in its aim to ensure the safe return of play, active recreation and sport.

“Through stakeholder insights, it was identified that the provision of sanitiser and face masks will alleviate some of the financial burden and remove a potential barrier for local and regional organisations to get their communities engaged in physical activity as soon as possible. A smaller campaign in 2020 was extremely well received and organisations were very grateful.

“The packs will make a huge contribution to community sport in Tāmaki Makaurau and enable Aucklanders to get active again, as quickly as possible. They represent the current demand assessed by Aktive and will support physical activity providers. They will positively impact the lives of all involved, particularly our tamariki and rangatahi.”

NZCT Chief Executive Mike Knell, endorses Wooten’s comments saying ”The impact on the Auckland community during the extended lock down, cannot be underestimated. NZCT are pleased to be able to provide Aktive the funds they need to help the Auckland community remain on its feet and physically active."

Wootten adds “We are grateful for the ongoing support from NZCT and look forward to actively profiling the impact and benefits this brings into Auckland over the coming months.”
