Kapiti Gymnastics excited by grant for new vault table and matting

The Kapiti Gymnastic Club will be able upgrade their equipment and purchase a new vault table with a grant of $7,610 from the NZCT.

Gymnastics NZ bought the vault equipment for Pacific Rim Championships, which were  postponed due to COVID-19. The vault table will be used during local and regional competitions, for training for competitive gymnasts and for use during the recreational and school programmes run by the club. Competitions attract a large number of members from across the region, providing a great boost to the local community.

Volunteer Grant Coordinator Cathy Canavan remarked, “Kapiti Gymnastics Club are so excited to be granted funds from NZCT towards the cost of a new international-grade competition vault table and safety matting. This vault set-up is approved for international competitions. As the largest gymnastics facility in the Lower North Island, we also host the Kapiti Championships, which attracts 200-300 competitors from the Greater Wellington area, from junior levels through to senior national levels.

“The North Harbour Gymnastics Club, which is based in Wellington, also hires our facility to host their competitions for a weekend every November, again a regional event for clubs from the Greater Wellington and Manawatu areas.

"As a host of regional courses for Gymnastics NZ, we also provide technical and youth leadership courses. We have a number of kindies that come weekly and six local schools that bring hundreds of young adults for a six-week school programme every year.

“Thanks to NZCT from everyone at Kapiti Gymnastics Club for enabling us to train, play, learn, and compete on our new vault table. The acquisition of this new apparatus will be a tremendous boost for our club's developmental and competition programmes, enrolment numbers, and event-hosting capabilities.”
