New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has awarded Stratford Toa Rugby League Club a $19,240 grant for new uniforms - including tops, shorts, and socks – for one hundred young athletes, replacing those originally issued in 2020.
Club Secretary Ellen Hall says, "Playing uniforms are a big deal for any sports club. Sport unites us. It teaches our tamariki so many life skills - communication, conflict resolution, resilience, and importantly, how to be a part of a team. Our kids learn how to look after and support each other as a team and brand-new uniforms will give them something to be proud of wearing as they represent themselves and their club on the field."
Since its first season, the club has entered teams in all five grades of the Taranaki junior competition, with strong local support from businesses and volunteers. Membership ranges from 96-120 players annually.
Ellen Hall adds “We’re excited about having the opportunity to create a new playing strip that represents Stratford Toa and the positive community culture we’ve created and fostered.”
Jade Wylde, Club Chair and Coach, expresses his excitement, “Really excited for the opportunity to get new strips for the whole club. The kids will look awesome. And when they look awesome, they feel awesome, and they will play awesome. “
Club members also share their excitement: “I can't wait to get the new uniforms - they will look really cool!” - Mataia Pasene, 7 years. “I’m going to run much faster in it.” - Te Kawahau Wylde, 5 years
NZCT’s GM of Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges, adds, “Stratford Toa are a wonderful club for the whole whanau and we’re delighted to help them out. This grant wouldn’t be possible without the responsible gaming partnerships we share with our New Plymouth-based venues.
