NZCT Helps Keep Te Wera Valley Lodge Open for Schools and Community Groups
New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has awarded Te Wera Outdoor Recreational Trust in Stratford a $15,000 grant towards the annual salary of its Camp Manager, helping ensure Te Wera Valley Lodge can continue providing safe and accessible outdoor experiences for schools, families, and community groups.
Te Wera Outdoor Recreational Trust Chair Michael Bailey says, "We provide the opportunity for educational, recreational, family and social groups to experience nature, outdoor activities and team building in peaceful surroundings that enhance physical and mental wellbeing. A dedicated Camp Manager is essential to ensuring the safe, efficient and high-quality operation of the facility, and NZCT's support helps us continue making Te Wera affordable and accessible to the communities we serve."
Te Wera Valley Lodge can accommodate up to 100 guests and is used by schools, sporting groups, religious organisations, and community groups from across the region. The Camp Manager plays a key role in supporting visitors, coordinating bookings, maintaining safety standards, and helping groups get the most from their experience at the facility.
Jeanette Bell, Teacher in Te Rangimārie at Stratford High School, says, “Most years we take our class on a day trip to Te Wera in Term 1 to make the most of the summer weather and enjoy being outdoors together. Our students absolutely love going to Te Wera. It is one of the highlights of Term 1.”
NZCT GM Grants, Marketing and Communications Ben Hodges says, " Te Wera is a fantastic facility that has helped generations of young people experience the outdoors. This grant will help ensure schools and community groups can continue enjoying everything it has to offer. NZCT can fund this community good thanks to the fundraising partnership we share with the Empire Stratford via their host responsible gaming room."
