Grants

If this is your first time applying for an NZCT grant, it's important that you read this section of our website carefully. There are a lot of things you need to know before you're ready to head over to our Fluxx Grants Portal and make a grant application.

Is your organisation aware of the need to re-register by April 2026 under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022? As this process takes time, ensure your organisation starts preparing early to remain eligible for funding. Review the details here.

Applying to us for a grant

You can find all the information you need about applying to us for a grant in this section. After you've looked at this page, we recommend you move onto the page called 'Making a successful application'.

If you then want to find further detail about how and when to apply to us for a grant and what it involves, head over to our questions and answers about grants.

You can find out more detail about our grants criteria too and exactly what purposes we do and don't fund.

When you're ready to apply to us for a grant, you'll find a button at the bottom of every page on this website called 'Fluxx Grants Portal' that will take you to our grants administration system. You can also click the link below.

We receive around 300 grant applications each month. Provided you have supplied all the information requested, we will generally have a decision for you in four to nine weeks.

Forms you will need during and after your grant application

You will need to complete and sign our Consent to be Audited form when you apply for a grant.

If you're applying for a salary grant, you'll need to complete the Salary Declaration form when you send us the accountability documents for your grant.

Our grants-making process

01

Checking and assessing applications

Incoming applications are checked for completeness and assessed against gambling regulations and NZCT funding criteria. We also check to ensure your organisation doesn't have any outstanding accountability relating to previous grants.

02

Funding recommendations and decision

We send your application to the relevant Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) to make funding recommendations based on their local knowledge and expertise. These recommendations are passed on to NZCT's Net Proceeds Committee (NPC), which makes the final decisions on all grant applications.

03

Notification and payment

Applicants are advised of the NPC’s decision by email within three to five days after the NPC meeting. Successful applicants are generally paid their grant within three to five days after the NPC meeting.

If you're successful...

If you're successful and your grant application is approved, we'd be very grateful for any recognition and acknowledgement you can give us for our funding. You can find out how to do that at the link below.

Sport and active recreation is our focus
NZCT is one of the largest funders of amateur sports participation and active recreation in New Zealand with around 75% of grants going to this purpose.
We also fund other great causes
The other 25% of our grant funds go to great causes such as community, arts and cultural groups, education and health services, environmental organisations, and rescue and ambulance services.

Below you can search for grants we have awarded since December 2019, which is when we moved to our Fluxx-based grants system. You can also see grant applications that were declined.

Any NZCT Net Proceeds Committee member with a declared current interest in an application will adhere to NZCT’s Conflicts of Interest Policy, including not being permitted to be a signatory for an approval decision of a relevant application(s).

If you need grant information from before December 2019, feel free to contact our grants team using the contact form.
