Going the Extra Mile: Ironside Vehicle Society delivers with NZCT Support.

"We’re very grateful for Ironside picking up Victoria and transporting her to Toucan (a Disabled Support Service provider) three days a week. Even our new puppy, Ziggy, feels included when one of the companion dogs is onboard and he gets to say hello."

New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has awarded a $15,000 operational grant to the Ironside Vehicle Society (Ironside) – a longstanding charity dedicated to providing essential transport services for the elderly, disabled, and infirm members of the community. This grant enables Ironside to continue in its mission to reduce social isolation and help provide access to vital services for approximately 14,000 individuals.

Louise Garside, a mother of a disabled Ironside client, shared her appreciation for the service, "We’re very grateful for Ironside picking up Victoria and transporting her to Toucan (a Disabled Support Service provider) three days a week. Even our new puppy, Ziggy, feels included when one of the companion dogs is onboard and he gets to say hello."

Last year their dedicated team of volunteers and staff worked tirelessly to cover 116,648 kilometres around Taranaki transporting 13,957 passengers to medical appointments, activities for disabled children and young adults, and outings for senior citizens and rest home residents, among others. All vehicles are equipped with wheelchair hoists, and the friendly drivers provide respectful and dignified service to all clients.

Lyn Swete, Marinoto Rest Home Activities Co-ordinator, noted "The Residents always have a smile on their faces when they travel with Ironside."

NZCT’s GM Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges added “By providing essential transport services, Ironside is helping to create a more connected and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and included. NZCT is grateful to the fundraising partnership with hospitality venues across Taranaki that made our grant possible.”
