New playground afoot at Bromley School thanks to NZCT.

"This will become an invaluable asset to our community, transforming the way we engage in sports and recreational activities. We'll no longer be hindered by wet and muddy fields, since this state-of-the-art surface will provide us with a reliable alternative."

A new turfed playground is nearing completion at Bromley School thanks to the efforts of the school’s community and a $14,454 grant from New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT).

With the help of local businesses generously donating equipment and labour, the school has been preparing a foundation on which to lay a recycled turf. The turf was gifted by Canterbury Artificial Surfaces Trust after it was replaced with a new turf at Nunweek Park*. However, funding was needed to secure the expertise of a professional turf laying company, and NZCT answered the call.

Teacher in charge of sport, Cathy Baker says "NZCT has enabled us to see this project through to completion."

Teacher Nick Yuki adds, "This will become an invaluable asset to our community, transforming the way we engage in sports and recreational activities. We'll no longer be hindered by wet and muddy fields, since this state-of-the-art surface will provide us with a reliable alternative."

Jazmine, a student added, "I can't wait to start playing hockey on this new smooth turf as I was always tripping over on our bumpy old field."

NZCT’s GM Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges adds "Kids need to let off steam in all seasons, and that's why we're thrilled to help Bromley School provide their pupils with an all-weather playing surface. It’s fantastic our responsible gaming fundraising partnerships with a number of Christchurch hospitality venues have made this grant possible."

* NZCT, also awarded a $393k grant towards the new turf at Nunweek Park.
