New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has awarded KartSport Manawatū a $15,000 grant for urgent track repairs, ensuring the club can safely host national events, and continue providing a top-quality motorsport facility for competitors and the wider Manawatū community.
Club Administrator Kate Elms says, “We’ve been selected to host the New Zealand Karting Grand Prix, the largest karting event on the national calendar in February, but repairs were essential to meet national safety standards and maintain our ‘A’ track rating.”
Hosting events of this scale brings competitors, families, supporters, and officials into the region, delivering increased spending to local accommodation providers, cafés, restaurants, fuel stations, and other Manawatū businesses. The upgraded track will also allow the club to host a wider range of events and disciplines, including the inaugural Mini GP Bikes Pirelli Series.
Youth volunteer Xander Pringle says, “I’m looking forward to volunteering at the New Zealand Grand Prix in the lighting tower I love having a view of the whole track from the tower and helping to ensure the safety of all the karts on track.”
Club member, driver and volunteer Emily Gale adds, “These track repairs have been pivotal to the longevity of the club and the safety of our drivers and our ability to host national events.“
Junior driver Flynn Pocock says, “Getting the grant from NZCT means we can hold big events and enjoy home advantage when racing!“
NZCT’s General Manager of Grants, Marketing and Communications, Ben Hodges, adds “A safe, well-maintained track lets kids, families, and volunteers enjoy their sport without worry - and brings wonderful benefits to the whole region. NZCT can fund this community good thanks to the fundraising partnerships we share with local hospitality venues via their responsible gaming lounges.”
