NZCT has awarded a grant of $10,745 to the Belfast Sports and Community Centre in Christchurch for rugby match balls, jerseys, and shorts.

Club Administrator and Life Member Leslie McFadden says,

"Our rugby section has been in existence since 1908. We have many extra teams this season, especially in our Junior Section, and annual subscriptions do not cover all the cost associated with running the sport. Some families have more than one player and cannot afford subscriptions. This grant from NZCT will allow us to keep our subscriptions affordable and means the world to our club as we prepare for the coming season."Club Secretary and Treasurer Glenda Spillane adds,

"The Belfast Rugby Football Club has a long and proud history of involvement in both our community and our national game at all levels."

We have a club rooms facility situated on Sheldon Park that is the envy of most clubs in the Canterbury region. It boasts a gymnasium and weight room, two bars, a restaurant, and a large entertainment area that is available to hire for a wide variety of functions.

The Belfast Sports and Community Centre is the hub of the Belfast and surrounding area for the Belfast Rugby Junior and Senior male and female teams, netball, touch rugby, the Riverside boxing gym, and the Rotary Club. We also support the Belfast Primary School by helping teachers coach their sports teams and make available our fully-equipped gym and clubrooms to other sports clubs and the local school free of charge.

In addition, we run a very successful Touch module throughout the summer with children's, men's, women’s, and mixed teams participating. We also have a close association with both the Belfast Netball Club, Waimak Gaels Gaelic Football Club, the Eclipse Marching Club, and the Belfast Bowling Club.
