NZCT Supports Stokes Valley Cricket Club

'The provision of new equipment and fresh balls by the club is not only essential for the safe and successful operation of our teams, but also encourages more members of the local community to play cricket by greatly reducing the cost to individual players."

NZCT has awarded $7,652 to Stokes Valley Cricket Club in Lower Hutt for new playing gear, equipment, and balls.

"We’re a community of over 10,000 people and our club provides facilities for the local area and beyond. Cricket gear can be expensive and without NZCT’s support some members of our community would miss out on the opportunity to play this wonderful sport,” said Brendan Wood, Secretary, SVCC.

Senior Club Administrator Julie Scanlon said, "The provision of new equipment and fresh balls by the club is not only essential for the safe and successful operation of our teams, but also encourages more members of the local community to play cricket by greatly reducing the cost to individual players".

"As a community club, we’re keen to remove barriers to participation and providing team gear including safety equipment for the upcoming season is one way for us to effect that. The cost of cricket balls alone is a huge cost for us each season and this funding will enable us to keep our teams on the field." Scanlon adds.

Stokes Valley Cricket Club was established in 1948/49 and plays at Delaney Park in the Lower Hutt suburb of Stokes Valley. We have a proud record of achievement, having won back-to-back Hutt Valley Senior Championships, two Pearce Cup titles in 1999/2000 and 2000/2001, plus the national club One Day title in 2000. In this time the club had a number of top performing players in their ranks including Gordon Swinney and Grant Donaldson. In addition, the club has won the Hutt Valley AJ Cook Shield for aggregate points on five occasions (most recently in 2005/06) and during a brief merger with Upper Hutt the combined 'Upper Valley' team won the Senior Hazlett Trophy in 2006/07.

This season is extra exciting for SVCC as we will be celebrating our 75th Jubilee during Wellington Anniversary weekend 2024 with a weekend of events for players past and present. This season the Club will also be fielding teams in various Cricket Wellington grades including 2-Day, 1-Day, T20 Mens and Womens, Girls Softball, and Juniors.
