The Auckland Performing Arts Centre gets a lift

Auckland Performing Arts Centre at Western Springs (TAPAC) received a grant of $2,934 for new circus equipment.

Executive Director Sarah Somerville says “TAPAC urgently needed to upgrade circus equipment that is reaching the end of its life span. This equipment is critical in order for TAPAC to safely run our circus programmes. NZCT’s recent grant has enabled us to upgrade some of our gear, specifically a new lycra hoop, peg stilts, and a mini trampoline. This specialised equipment will be used by participants on our popular circus arts programmes for children, teens and adults, as well on our school holiday programmes. TAPAC’s circus arts programmes are run by circus professionals Circability and teach skills, confidence, teamwork, and trust.”

TAPAC has worked closely with professional circus tutors from Circability to identify the suppliers of the safest and most robust circus equipment, some of which needed to be imported from Australia and the USA.

Established by the community for the community in 2003, TAPAC is a vibrant performing arts hub offering high-quality performing arts education and facilities to Auckland’s diverse creative communities. Affordable, inclusive, and accessible, TAPAC offers a nurturing and supportive environment where emerging and established artists can connect through their collective love of the performing arts.

TAPAC offers five popular Circus Arts weekly classes and up to ten popular Circus Arts holiday programmes every year. TAPAC’s expert tutors also travel to low-decile schools to run education outreach programmes, including circus arts.
